Climate and changes in the ecological balance of the region of the Dead Cities are some elements that could possibly explain the decline of the region where the Dead Cities lie. Ecological damage is attributed to deforestation, overgrazing and erosion. Equally significant, however, were the earthquakes which destroyed the hydraulic system and surely caused alterations in the availability of water in most of these villages.
