Most of the architectural remains of the Dead Cities are domestic, and in the absence of readily available wood, inhabitants almost entirely built their houses out of the durable regional limestone. The villages also include a remarkably diverse range of public buildings: among them churches, tombs, and monasteries, but also baths.
