The villages of the Dead Cities did not follow a proper urban plan as the Romans conceived it. The streets were narrow, the houses scattered in the plains or the hills without real organization: no big squares in the centre of the village and no clear separation between public and private buildings. Churches, for example, were intermingled with houses.
