Camels in the desert
An oasis, a small paradise in the desert, owes its creation to a spring or a similar water source. The oasis of Palmyra developed thanks to the Afqa spring and contributed to the birth of settlements in the Palaeolithic age. In ancient times, date palm, olive and, pomegranate trees grew. Further development of Palmyra relied on the presence of water and it can be said that the city was founded because of the oasis.
