Caravans crossing the desert
In a Bedouin tent
Palmyra owes its importance to the fact that it was located along the commercial silk and spices roads. The caravans could go from 30 to 300 dromedaries and camels and came from the East and from Arabia. They passed through Palmyra or stopped there to exchange goods. Every caravan had a chief and in Palmyra, each of them was welcomed by a feast.
