Caravans in the desert
Goods exchanged by the caravans
Turquoise, silk, glass
The caravans coming to Palmyra from the East brought silk, glass, precious stones, incense, fabric and leather, but mostly silk and spices. The caravans coming from the South, from Yemen and Jordan, would bring several types of goods, depending on the area: many precious stones from Arabia, lapis-lazuli from the Gulf. From the West, they brought glass, leather, incense and fabric, but they bought more than they sold. It was however trade based on the exchange of money.
