The Diocletian's camp
To the West of the street running from the funerary temple to the oval plaza, on a sloping terrain, can be seen the area occupied by Diocletian’s camp. The other sanctuaries or various installations dating from the Palmyrean era were incorporated into the camp. The quality of the ornamental vine which decorated the stones laying on the ground resembles those of the funerary temple, and this building could have served as a palace for the princes of Palmyra before being transformed into a Praetorian (judgment hall) by Diocletian.
