The path of the ancient "Silk Road"
Palmyra, often described as "the bride of the desert" is situated in the heart of Syria, 245 km northeast of Damascus and 200 km southwest of the Euphrates. It is located between a rocky desert and a desert mountain chain. In the city’s glorious past, it was a vibrant hub for caravans travelling between the Mediterranean, Mesopotamia and Arabia. It was the most important stop-over point on the Silk Road coming from China and India to the Mediterranean.
