The Valley of Tombs
Bedouins of the desert
Desert plants are either structurally adapted to a limited water supply or salt-tolerant. After winter rains, long-buried seeds germinate and bloom in a few hours. Old poems tell us about how rich the oasis was in the past. Today, in the Palmyra region, the Bedouin look for truffles and medicinal herbs. Meanwhile, water is becoming increasingly scarce and several plant species are unable to survive in these arid conditions.
