The site of Saint Simeon
Born at Sisan in 338 A.D., Simeon entered a monastery very young. He was withdrawn because of his strict ascetical practices and, after some years of other strict ways of living, he decided to live upon a pillar. He soon became very popular, thanks to his life and miracles. Even emperors and important people asked for his counsel or intercession. After spending 36 years on his pillar, Simeon died on September 2nd, 459 A.D. His relics were much disputed: they were quickly claimed by the inhabitants of Antioch.
