The site of Saint Simeon
During the enhancement works of the site of Saint Simeon, the archaeologist Tchalenko distinguished three types of ruins: the comprehensive blocks which were numbered and kept in a segregated area, the half-conserved blocks which had an ambiguous status and which were not automatically conserved, and the illegible blocks that were taken away from the esplanade. The esplanade, i.e. the space between the martyrium and the baptistery, was covered by another esplanade, definitely covering the primary level. All the remains, ceramics and bones, were thrown away.
