The site of Saint Simeon
Archaeologist Tchalenko excavated Saint Simeon from 1930 to 1960. Jean-Pierre Sodini and his team took over from 1980. As the archaeologist says in an interview: "At this date, we found a site which had been excavated without a continuous method. Numerous blocks were not numbered, and architect Jean-Luc Biscop tried to reconstruct the different periods of the site, looking for blocks at the Institut Français d’Archéologie in Beirut, or in the Aleppo Museum. Biscop managed to retrace the position where blocks fell and even managed to trace back the origin of the stones. We are therefore able to reconstruct the progressive degradation of the site."
