The site of Saint Simeon
In the 8th century, Antioch no longer had a Patriarch. We therefore do not know if the cult of Saint Simeon continued there. What we know, however, is that in the 10th century, the Eastern basilica was recovered and transformed into a church with a Greek and Syriac inscription, mentioning the Emperors. This inscription informs us on the Byzantine reconquest of Northern Syria. This construction becomes at the same time a fortress. The Byzantine and Muslims will continue to dispute over the site until the beginning of the 11th century. After this date, they will loose interest in the site.
