The site of Saint Simeon
The constructions in the Muslim period (the Arab conquest took place in 636) are essentially revocations, doors’ closures, walls to close the entrances and perhaps the recuperation of the baptistery. Some mosaics found at the doors’ level could be evidences of the transformation of the baptistery into a mosque. Two Islamic tombs dating back to the first half of the 10th century were discovered. When the Byzantines came back, they damaged these elements by building their own tower. The Byzantine era featured many massive constructions. In 1017, another raid took place against the Byzantines. Then, it seems that the site was no longer of interest to anyone.
