Saint Simeon

For centuries, Saint Simeon was a high place of Christianity in Syria, and drew thousands and thousands of pilgrims, worshipers of this Saint. The young shepherd Simeon turned himself into a stylite, a man who lived for 36 years perched on top of a column 15 meters' high. By doing so, he attracted increasing numbers of pilgrims and worshipers. Soon after his death, the memory of Saint Simeon was perpetuated: the basilica immediately built around the column is considered as the most beautiful church in the whole Levant. There are, more precisely, four churches in one.
